Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Turner. She and her team shared their story with us below:
Kayes Learning Corner is an inner-city preparatory preschool that focuses on Kindergarten readiness. Kayes focuses on quality care at affordable rates. We charge per family, not per child! Kayes was birthed during the pandemic; while many were at home and stressed about what education would look like, our founder Ms. Crystal worked tirelessly to be a solution for parents & children alike. What started as a desire to help families short term birthed a long-term goal of Ms. Crystals and became Kayes Learning Corner.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth? While we love our work, it has sometimes been challenging. Our biggest hurdle is finding a building so that we can take more scholars off of our waiting list. And more investors so we can continue offering tuition scholarships to our needy families.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work. Ms. Crystal specializes in elementary education as well as special education. Ms. Crystal taught for 7 years 4 of which were kindergarten. Ms. Crystal has composed the curriculum for the infamous summer program Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools! You will notice many of the principles that CDF is founded upon ate the pillars that Kayes learning Corner shares.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success? One of my favorite quotes is service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life rather than something you do in your spare time. In all things that I do, I strive to do them in love and service
